Handle USB Devices with USBDeview

USBDeview is an interesting USB Device Administration software for Windows. It allows you to block devices (like Flash Drives) with their ID so that you don’t get infected from the same device again. There is also an option to do a Speed Test of your USB Mass Storage device among many others.

USBDeview

This software need not be installed in your PC. Running it’s EXE file launches the program and you’ll be good to go. As you can see in the screenshot above a list of device transactions that has happened in your USB ports are shown while the currently connected devices are also shown amidst them. Right-clicking a connected device shows up a context menu similar to the one below.

With this you can perform standard operations like Disconnecting a drive before removing it, letting it AutoPlay, Performing a Speed Test, etc. If you share your PC with someone there is also an option to block/disable a particular device with it’s Device ID.

Speed Test is a pretty exciting option in this software and I tested all my USB storage devices to find out which was the fastest.

Bottom Line:

Given the size of the program (65KB) it does a lot! Anyone who uses a lot of USB devices should find this program useful and  I strongly recommend that you give it a try.
