Get back Mac-like font rendering on Safari for Windows [Quick Tip]

If you had recently updated to Safari 5.1 or installed it on your PC anticipating the Mac OS like font smoothing you’d be disappointed since Apple has changed the default font rendering on Safari to the one we see on Windows (Clear Type or otherwise). But, the good news is that you can always switch to font smoothing and make it look like you’ve always wanted. Here’s what you need to do.

Preferences

  • Fire up Safari and click on the Gear-like settings icon at the top right. Choose ‘Preferences’ from the list. (or simply choose Ctrl+,)

Appearance

  • Now, in the preferences window, click on the ‘Appearance’ tab and choose anything other than ‘Windows Standard’ and ‘Best for CRT’. That’s it!
